Event Description

Volunteer Corps Member (Flexible dates)

The Garden City Bird Sanctuary, Inc. (GCBS) needs more Volunteer Corps Members. The GCBS is looking for volunteers to help maintain the property and keep the GCBS open. Looks great on a resume or college application, and you belong to a great group of people helping to make our community and world a better place!

Title: Volunteer Corps Member

Period: EOM April to EOM September

Position Type: Volunteer

Commitment: 4 hours per month

Requirements: Volunteers 15 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian

The gates of the Garden City Bird Sanctuary ("GCBS"), located at 182 Tanners Pond Rd, would not be open to the public without the help of the volunteers and particularly the GCBS Volunteer Corps Members. As a Volunteer Corps Member you will work with the the Volunteer Captain and/or Assistant Captain(s) to ensure this environmental gem is accessible to all who wish to enjoy it during the 'open season' (the 'open season' runs from the end of April through September, weekends only, 10 am–6 pm).

You only need to commit to two 2-hour shifts per month (that's only a total of 4 hours per month).

Volunteers help with:

+ Welcoming Visitors

- We need gate attendants near the entrance so all visitors can sign in.

+ Trail Maintenance / Gardening

- We have 9 acres of meadows, woodlands, and trail systems that require constant upkeep.

+ Special Events

- We hold several events during the year that require extra assistance.

You are not merely "someone who helps" because the Volunteer Corps works as a subdivision of the Board of Directors and has a say in how things are done. Your time can be used for community service hours and we offer internships for high school and college students.

The GCBS Volunteer Corps mission is to:

(1) Keep the Bird Sanctuary open to the public during the weekends from the end of April to the end of September (from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM).

(2) Help maintain and improve the nine-acre property.

Become a part of something bigger and make a difference!

If you can donate some time on the weekends beginning April 26, 2025, please apply by emailing us at gcbirdsanctuary@gmail.com.

Volunteers 15 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
